Start with value, not price

When I want to get honest insight into pricing, I don’t start by asking customers what they'd pay. I start with what value they get. Are there circumstances where you’d be willing to stretch your budget for a tool like this?

What’s the maximum monthly (or annual) amount you could imagine your team approving for this solution—and what would you expect at that price?

How would investing in this affect your spending on other tools or services?

Budget anchoring questions help respondents put theoretical pricing into the context of their real-world spend ("What’s a reasonable budget for addressing this area in your organization?").

Competitive spend questions probe whether they’d pay more or less versus other solutions: ("Are you replacing another tool, or is this a net-new expense?").

Value threshold questions surface price sensitivities: ("At what price would you no longer consider this a viable option?").

Finding your value metric through customer conversations

What’s the most important way you measure value from a product like ours?

If pricing were usage-based, which measure (users, projects, features, data volume) would feel fairest and why?

When you describe our product internally, what do you say is the biggest win?

What would make you feel you "got your money’s worth" at the end of a month?

Are there limits—features, users, usage—that would make you reconsider or downgrade?
